Head of Legal

Role Title: Head of Legal

Reporting to: Chief Legal Officer

Location: Dublin

Description of role and responsibility:

  • A member of the Management Team, Head of Legal will work with other Team Leads on cross functional initiatives and change programmes
  • In conjunction with the Chief Transaction Officer and the wider legal team, acting as legal counsel to the Company’s board and management team regarding the Company’s positions on legal matters, such as the potential legal ramifications of proposed courses of actions to be taken, including providing advice on whether to settle disputes and/or institute, defend or maintain legal action
  • Managing and further developing a highly motivated team of transaction lawyers to ensure excellence across the legal function
  • Overseeing the resolution of legal issues within the context of the Company’s overall commercial objectives including default management, active management of contract compliance issues, lease restructurings, repossessions and associated litigation and bankruptcy matters
  • Supporting, advising and empowering the team of transaction lawyers, whose work includes restructuring, negotiating, reviewing and drafting full range of transaction documentation including both short- and long-term operating leases, finance and tax leases, loans, sales and acquisitions, repossessions and bankruptcies
  • Appointing and overseeing external counsel when required
  • Managing and resolving issues and disputes with lessors, financiers, airlines, manufacturers and other third parties and the management of relationships with other stakeholders and external service providers, including law firms

 

Competencies and Experience:

  • A minimum of 7 years’ relevant aircraft leasing and finance experience with experience of drafting and negotiating aircraft operating lease agreements, aircraft sale and purchase agreements and financing documents and responsibility for managing the delivery, sale and financing of aircraft
  • Proven ability to manage and develop a highly motivated team within a dynamic environment
  • Preferred candidate will have trained at a top tier law firm before working at an existing leasing company
  • Excellent attention to detail is essential
  • Willingness for some international travel
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to create and maintain excellent relationships with key external and internal Goshawk teams
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills
  • Solutions-driven attitude and comfortable making decisions which are aligned with and supportive of Goshawk’s culture and values
